For those of you who are interested, the mornign pule that was chanted was actually done last year as well. I did a write up and you can find it here:

This Mele Kahea is used when a hula dancer wanted to enter the halau, the place where hula is leanred. It was a calling to the Kumu as a reqeust to be heard and be ready to receive instruction. The Mele Kahea goes back quite a ways in Hawaiian History.
