A ship in harbor is safe - but that is not what ships are for.

if it's real...they shot it out of a helicopter...unless the support boat was cresting on a wave of the same height...just read the story and he said he shot it from the crows nest...can you imagine what his seat must have been like up there when the wave hit?

was thinking same thing--placement/height of photographer to take shot....space between swells to raise photog to same level....and seas behind the shot (not as intense)...based on photog's claim, ill take it as real since he covered some of those points...

If it is real-  had to be a rouge wave.
Who in their right mind would go out in 60-80ft. combined seas and swell- and you sure as hell would not be sitting in the crows nest.  Wow! What a shot!

The photo is available as a poster. I have one.  I'll try to find the source.

So, let me tell a little story.  In spring of 2002 I talked alot about the huge conditions for Molokai 2001, thus the nickname.  Now, you all have proof of what it was like that year.

And, I wouldn't call that rogue wave.  Most of the day was like that.  It's a big wave, but the spilling over is making it look bigger.  I think 30 knot winds had been blowing for days.

funny you say that... in the spring of 2002, the way you described the conditions, i would have thought that this 50' rogue wave was one of the smaller sets.

I think it's proof that Photoshop is awesome software.

But I still believe you Matt. I'm sure it was quite a change from Lake Catalina.
