Technique aside, I like how he presents both the "old" and the "new" strokes as having a synergy. Where "one is attacking (old), and one is relaxing & breathing (new)." I will further suggest that mastering a transition between these gears is paramount to outrigger, where both must be used effectively to maximize speed in various conditions e.g. downwind vs. upwind, pushing for bumps vs. maintaining momentum.

Talk of "gears" aside, he also explains the physical technique much better than Johnny's original video: Don't overreach, get your blade straight (parallel to gunnel), and don't bend that elbow.
